Throughout your Functional Skills English Level 2 course, your progress will be evaluated through our online quizzes. Achieving a score of 80% or higher on these quizzes indicates that you are ready to tackle the assignments. After successfully completing all assignments, you will be prepared to take the mock exams. This Functional Skills Level 2 comprehensive course package includes one graded mock exam for each exam. Functional Skills are crucial for success in any future academic pursuits, qualifications, and career opportunities. As an acknowledged substitute for GCSE qualifications, Functional Skills courses are designed to offer you the most convenient solution to acquire and enhance practical skills in the essential areas of maths and English.

To provide an effective method of rapidly equipping learners with competencies in the core subjects required for most careers and advanced educational opportunities, this Functional Skills Level 2 English course was developed.

The Functional Skills English Level 2 online course encompasses everything necessary to prepare for a Functional Skills exam.

Functional Skills qualifications are based on Department for Education (DfE) approved subject content and are regulated by Ofqual. Learners will work towards their qualification in a number of settings, including but not limited to:

  • offender learning establishments

The qualification provides learners with the opportunity to:

  • Listen, comprehend, and contribute meaningfully to discussions in various contexts.
  • Use their understanding of language to tailor delivery and content to suit different audiences and purposes.
  • Read a variety of text types with confidence and fluency, applying their knowledge and understanding to enhance their own writing.
  • Write texts of varying complexity with accuracy, effectiveness, and proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Recognize when and for which audiences planning and drafting with formal language are essential.
  1. What does this qualification cover?

To earn the qualification, you will need to dedicate approximately 55 hours to guided learning.

You will learn to handle English-related tasks that help you build skills in speaking, listening, and communicating, as well as reading and writing.

Examples of the types of skills you will develop include:

  • Listening attentively, understanding, and contributing effectively to discussions in various contexts.
  • Applying your knowledge of language to adjust delivery and content according to the audience and purpose.
  • Reading various types of texts with confidence and fluency, using your understanding to enhance your own writing.
  • Writing texts of differing complexity with accuracy, effectiveness, and correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Recognizing when it is important to plan, draft, and use formal language based on the situation and the audience, and when it is less crucial.

Functional Skills Level 2 English comprises the following units:

Reading

This Functional Skills Level 2 English unit focuses on reading for information. It covers analyzing biased texts and helps you evaluate the reliability of authors’ opinions. Additionally, it explores various layout features and their effects on the reader. All reading skills will be assessed through quizzes at the end of each section, culminating in a tutor-marked assignment.

Writing

This Functional Skills Level 2 English unit focuses on the most effective methods for writing various types of content, such as letters, newspaper articles, emails, and blogs. It also assesses your spelling, punctuation, and grammar skills. At the conclusion of your studies, there will be quizzes and tutor-marked assignments to evaluate your understanding.

Speaking, Listening, and Communication

The speaking, listening, and communication (SLC) aspect of English Functional Skills is one of the most enjoyable and beneficial areas to enhance. This Functional Skills Level 2 English unit prepares you for the SLC assessment by providing examples of effective ways to handle everyday situations both at home and in the workplace. These exercises will help build your confidence and effectiveness in these scenarios. This section concludes with quizzes and a tutor-marked assignment.

Once you’ve completed all tutor-marked assignments, you will be ready to take your mock exam. The mock exam is evaluated by your tutor, who will provide feedback and recommend any areas that may need further revision.

  1. Qualifications

Upon completion of this course, you will have mastered all the skills required for a Level 2 Functional Skills English exam. If you opt to take the exam, you must coordinate with us and can purchase it separately at a later date if not now. Upon successfully completing the exam, you will attain a Functional Skills Level 2 certification in English. This certification is comparable to achieving a grade C or higher (4) in GCSE. It qualifies you to pursue further educational programs and may grant access to certain universities. If you aspire to advance and lack that C grade, then this program is tailored for you.
