A Level Religious Studies is an excellent choice for those with an interest in religion, or those who want to combine this A Level with other A Level options like Philosophy or History.
This A Level is also ideal for those who want to study Religion or Theology at university level. You will cover a range of religions including Buddhism giving a holistic perspective.
This A-Level in Religious Studies is suitable for students of all religions. You will cover a
wide range of religions including Christianity as well as Buddhism or Hinduism or
Sikhism. You will understand how religion plays into moral decision making and adopt
an enquiring, reflective and critical approach to the study of religion.
Upon successful completion of the exam and practical assessments (as administered
by AQA), you will have achieved an internationally recognised AQA A-Level Religious
Studies.

This course is divided into 2 components:
Component 1
Section A: Philosophy of religion
- Arguments for the existence of God
- Evil and suffering
- Religious experience
- Religious language
- Miracles
- Self and life after death.
Section B: Ethics and religion
- Ethical theories
- Issues of human life and death
- Issues of animal life and death
- Introduction to meta ethics
- Free will and moral responsibility
- Conscience
- Bentham and Kant.
Component 1
Section A: Study of religion – for each faith option (2A–2E) the following topics are
covered:
- Sources of wisdom and authority
- God/gods/ultimate reality
- Self, death and the afterlife
- Good conduct and key moral principles
- Expression of religious identity
- Religion, gender and sexuality
- Religion and science
- Religion and secularisation
- Religion and religious pluralism.
Section B: The dialogue between philosophy of religion and religion.
How religion is influenced by, and has an influence on philosophy of religion in relation
to the
issues studied.
Section C: The dialogue between ethical studies and religion.
How religion
The AQA A Level Religious Studies qualification is gained once both exam papers are
successfully completed along with coursework. These exams are administered by the
AQA and assessment centre details will be included with your course, as well as practice
papers so that you are more than prepared for your assessments. You will need to
contact your local examination centre to work through your coursework requirements.
In addition, there will be a number of tutor marked assessments (TMAs) to ensure that
you have a thorough understanding of the course materials, with the tutor sending
comments to guide you through any areas of potential difficulty, as well as a range of
self-assessments that are indicators that you understand the materials as you work
through them. These are for your own information, and do not need to be shown to your
course tutor.
Online
The course is primarily an online course using a Learning Management System (LMS).
The online course has many features that cannot be printed such as embedded videos, forums and interactive tests.
The course includes Tutor Marked Assessments which you access and submit through the online system.
Tutor support:
